Ten individuals convicted of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of spreading fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The couple married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
